dasl has been providing independent advocacy support in Lambeth since 2011.

An advocate is a trained person who can support you to:
* express your views, wishes or needs, 
* ensure you are listened to and your views taken into account, 
* understand your rights and responsibilities and be fully informed about your situation, 
* get information about services and how to get them,
* understand information, explore choices and options, 
* be more involved in decisions about your life, 
* uphold your rights including representing these if you are unable to do this yourself,
* challenge decisions and make complaints, 
* explore accessing specialist advice or legal representation.

Where possible, we try and support you to feel more confident to advocate for yourself or we can speak up for you if you are unable to do so.

Our advocacy service is free, independent and confidential.


dasl is commissioned to provide independent advocacy support by Lambeth Council as part of Connect Lambeth

On 1st July 2020 we formed Connect Lambeth’s Advocacy Hub, a partnership between dasl, Community Support Network South London (CSNSL) and POhWER.
The Advocacy Hub provides all statutory advocacy for people aged 16 and over in Lambeth.


Our service is committed to upholding the principles of the Advocacy Charter and has been awarded the Advocacy Quality Performance Mark for the second time, recognising the high standards we deliver.

Independence – it is evident that the advocates demonstrate independence and actively challenge decisions in a supportive, assertive way to support people’s rights.”

Person-led and Empowerment – these are clearly advanced practitioners that are able to support people to lead the advocacy process, be in control of decisions about their lives as much as possible and ensure that decisions for people that may lack capacity remain person-centred.”


We provide the following types of advocacy support:

Issue-based advocacy: 
We support people to speak up about a range of issues including care and support, health and housing services, keeping safe from abuse and discrimination. 

Advocacy under the Care Act 2014
We support people who have been assessed by Lambeth Council as meeting eligibility criteria for advocacy support under the Care Act 2014.  Those eligible have a ‘substantial difficulty’ being involved in a social care process and do not have an ‘appropriate individual’ to support them during this process. There are other situations when a person may be eligible for advocacy support under the Care Act 2014.
